THE CRADLE POSITION

This is a common position for full term babies and older babies.

breastfeeding positions

Sit straight on a comfortable chair with supportive armrests or on a bed. Support your back with pillows and rest your feet. Hold your baby’s head in the crook of the arm across the abdomen, opposite the breast you are using to feed. The baby should lie horizontally aligning the face, stomach, and knees facing towards you in a way that your elbow is supporting his head, forearm, his neck and back and your hand supporting his bottom.

Use your right hand to support the baby if nursing from the right breast and use the left hand when nursing from the other.

Keep baby’s head straight or slightly bent, facing the breast with nose opposite the nipple and chin touching the breast. Don’t bend or lean forward.
